Do you need to have a solid structure to be successful?  Or do you need to go with the flow?

What would happen if you embraced all parts of your productivity cycle and didn’t try to tell yourself that this current phase isn’t effective or sustainable?

Let’s harness your natural cycles to supercharge growth while catalyzing inspiration.

Do you remember the old Miller Lite beer commercials that asserted that if you drank Miller Lite, you got a beer that’s both “Tastes great, less filling”?

The people in the commercial would get into these ridiculous arguments over which quality Miller Lite actually had, and things would escalate quickly.  They’d yell “Tastes great!” “Less filling!” back and forth until they got up, threw their stuff down, and started a brawl.

The point of the commercial was that if you bought Miller Lite beer you got both, right? It is (theoretically) possible and desirable to have both qualities in your beer at the same time.

Humans love dichotomy.  It’s easier to process the clean lines of “this, not that.”  We love to see it in our external environment (like, say, our beer, for example),  but we love even more to see dichotomy in ourselves.  Dichotomy gives us something  both to identify with and to identify against, taking “this, not that” to the potent level of “I am this, I am not that.”

Sometimes it can feel like there are two camps within business development, especially for entrepreneurs. One side is yelling, “You need a plan. You need a structure.” And the other side is yelling, “You should go with the flow.”

“You need a structure!”
“Go with the flow!”
“You need a structure!”
“Go with the flow!”
…and it’s going to turn into a big brawl in a mud pit in a second.

What we need to realize is that we get to have both. We can have both.

It’s not only possible but preferable for your business to be able to have some structure, to have a plan, and to move deliberately forward with focus, but also to be able to go with the flow and to remain open to opportunity and inspiration at the same time.

I’m Amy Simpkins

Amy Simpkins Personal and Professional Vision Architect…coach, international speaker, and business architect. I want to help you intentionally design fulfilling, high-impact work that leverages your natural cycles of ebb and flow.

As an MIT-trained engineer, I spent 15 years as a spacecraft systems architect (my mom would say “rocket scientist”), responsible for holding the big picture vision for complex space exploration missions, ensuring that all components of the vision were well-integrated into a cohesive whole, and implementing that vision with flexibility and adaptability. Now I take those proven design methodologies and big-picture mindset, infuse them with a heaping side of intuition and soul, and put it all to work to get you the clarity, confidence, and momentum you need to thrive.

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Master of Science degree in Astronautical Engineering from the University of Southern California. I have designed, integrated, and flown spacecraft with Lockheed Martin, and I currently lead business development for the hot renewable energy startup, muGrid Analytics. I geek out about Design Thinking and Iterative Development, spirals are my favorite shape, and I get turned on seeing patterns emerge in seemingly unrelated subjects.

I live with my amazing entrepreneurial husband and three rambunctious children in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains outside Denver, Colorado.  I am a messy chef, a world traveler, a slow triathlete, a vocal music minor, a homeschool mom, and a tough cookie in the Colorado backcountry.

Let’s create work that lights you up, changes the world, fits your life, and allows you the freedom to explore and grow.

“When I am working on a problem, I never think about beauty. But when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong.”

~R. Buckminster Fuller
